For a worker to refuse to belong to Union is not to exercise a democratic right; It is to accept benefits that others have worked for without contributing to the costs.

May Day

Welcome to the web site for May Day in Newcastle and the Hunter Region, New South Wales, Australia.

The May Day Committee is a sub-committee of Newcastle Trades Hall Council and organises a number of events and activities each year to celebrate May Day.

'What is May Day?' Read our brief history and find out what has happened over the last 100 years.

What are we planning for future May Days? Take a look at 'The May Day March'. We will post the latest information available.

Scroll through the images in the 'Event Archive'. We have photographs from the Eight Hour Day Demonstrations in the 1900s through to more recent May Days in Newcastle.

If you participated in any May Day celebrations in the Hunter Region, you can use the 'Tell Your Story' page to type in your recollections and even send us an image.

Check out our site and let us know what you think via the 'Contact Us' page.
